Now open in Selfridges London is Dolly’s Cafe which celebrates the lives of the Dolly sisters – identical Hungarian twins Rosika and Jansci Deutsch who were lovers of the store’s founder, Harry Gordon Selfridge. Born in 1892, they were hot favourites on the Vaudeville circuit, joined the famous Ziegfeld Follies and appeared in several films.
Open all day, the restaurant proffers a 1920s-inspired range of patisseries, cakes, scones and sandwiches. Antique silver teapots and sugar bowls are a nice touch, as are waitresses in vintage-inspired black tea dresses with starched collars and aprons. It’s a place worth flapping about.
Dolly’s Cafe is on the lower ground floor at Selfridges.
