Explore the skin you’re in

Clothes have a complicated relationship with the body – whether they give it an entirely new identity, make it sexier or frumpier, or simply leave the wearer asking ‘Does my bum look big in this?’ Tomorrow, two artists open new exhibitions exploring that relationship. First up is Alice Channer’s ‘Body Conscious’ at The Approach Gallery which investigates what it means to wear animal print fabrics. Then Polly Borland’s darkly irreverent ‘Smudge’ (images above) at Other Criteria on New Bond Street shows photographs of anonymous models in ‘suits’ which distort their bodies through mutant hair growths, phallic protrusions and giant fake breasts, among other delights.

For info, see Body Conscious and Smudge listings.
