Ritzy Cinema hits 100

Posted at 12:30 pm, March 23, 2011 in Arts & Entertainment

Ritzy CinemaTomorrow, one of our favourite London cinemas, the Ritzy in Brixton, hits the ripe old age of 100 – which is no small feat when you consider the many screens in the capital that have been closed down and left to rot. To mark the occasion, a host of exciting screenings and events take place here throughout the year, kicking off with a double bill tomorrow of FW Murnau’s swoon-inducing 1927 romantic classic, ‘Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans’, alongside Luis Buñuel & Salvador Dalí’s surreal short, ‘Un Chien Andalou’, from 1928. Ace accompanists Neil Brand and Jeff Davenport offer an extra layer of live musical texture to this pair of classics.
