Jude Law demonstrates for Belarus Free Theatre

Posted at 5:00 pm, March 27, 2011 in Arts & Entertainment

At 5pm tomorrow, Belarus Free Theatre, Jude Law and other high-profile supporters will picket PR company Grayling, to highlight its links with Belarus, Europe’s last dictatorship. Introduced by Sir Tom Stoppard, they will then perform inside the Grand Committee Room of the House of Commons at 6pm. Members of the theatre company – which has performed covertly in its home country and internationally to great acclaim – have often been subject to harrassment and arrest on their home territory. Pressure on dissidents stepped up after the rigged elections in December 2010, which returned President Lukashenko with 80% of the vote: the company’s leaders were forced underground and its manager imprisoned.

Protestors will meet here.
