Big-name Hollywood celebrities in swanky foreign locations babbling like nervous intellectuals and getting into awkward romantic entanglements? The new Woody Allen’s film premieres at Cannes next month. Sure, his last couple of efforts have been bad but it’s only been 3 years since ‘Vicky Cristina Barcelona’; the newbie, ‘Midnight in Paris’, looks like it might be a lot of fun. Owen Wilson takes the Woody role as the nervy writer seduced by the allure of gay Paree, and the cast is filled out by the likes of Michael Sheen, Rachel McAdams, Adrien Brody, Kathy Bates and of course La Premiere Dame de France herself, Carla Bruni (though her part is reportedly only a walk-on). We’re not getting our hopes up too high – but that only means we’ll be even more pleasantly surprised if it turns out to be vintage Allen.
