In a previous age, a teenage lad grafting away behind a steam-powered contraption in an East End warehouse would have been the stuff of a Dickens novel. But in 21st century Shoreditch, it’s something to celebrate: 15-year-old Callum Hale Thompson is probably London’s youngest barista, and he’s manning (or is that boying?) a temporary coffee bar in the YCN space in Rivington Street. While his school chums spend their Easter holidays glued to Xbox, this baby-faced bean grinder shows his impressive skills by pulling espressos of Square Mile coffee between 9am and 3pm weekdays. Only until Friday April 22.
YCN, 72 Rivington St, EC2A 3AY (020 7033 2140).
