E5 Bakehouse makes the perfect cheese sandwich
E5 Bakehouse in London Fields now offers take-out lunches, including an awesome sandwich. The singular case in ‘sandwich’ is intentional: you choose from a range of precisely one and it’s generally cheese salad – but as a cheese salad sandwich it’s very special indeed. First the bread: of immaculate sourdough provenance, made on site and extracted from the wood-burning oven something around an hour ago. Add a drizzle of olive oil (no butter); not-too-thick slices of English cheddar, Italian mozzarella or French brie; a handful of leafy organic salad and then, if you’ve time to wait, a couple of minutes back in the oven to allow the flavours and textures to meld. Crispy on the outside, unctuous in the middle, the result, for a very decent £2.80 is a little piece of prandial perfection.
