The hottest chocolate spots in East London
No sooner has Dalston got used to having a boutique hotel Avo Hotel than it’s hosting pop-up chocolate events, laid on by Stoke Newington’s Niko B Organic Chocolates, hand-maker of organic confectionery that’s gorgeously atavistic. If you missed the recent Mothers’ Day salon, follow Niko B’s tweets for future events – set to include a monthly desert club and chocolate and wine pairing workshop – or catch Niko B at Stoke Newington’s Saturday morning farmers’ market. Meanwhile, over at Broadway Market, check out Jaz & Juls in the schoolyard on Westgate Street, which hand-makes drinking chocolate out of a little powder and a lot of Grenadan organic chocolate, with flavouring such as mint (surprisingly good), chilli and ginger. If you can’t wait for a fix, Coco&Me, known in these parts for an ace flourless chocolate cake, does a fine hot brew on Broadway Market proper, and further down you can get a stand-up-your-spoon-in-it Spanish version at the churros stall.
