Formed by legendary cigar-chomping German free-jazz saxophonist Brötzmann – whose huge, screaming sound has been one of the most distinctive and celebrated in international improv since the late ’60s – this super-loud jet engine of a free improv supergroup (above) roll up for an ear-splitting, gut-wrenching 3 night stand at Café Oto tonight (to Weds). The stellar line-up includes Swedish sax skronk meister Mats Gustafsson (best known for his grungy outings with The Thing), drum monster Paal Nilssen-Love, and angry-sounding altoist Ken Vandermark. Whether you’re a beard-scratching improv aficionado or just a curious music fan happy to let the waves of sax/trumpet/cello/drum noise wash over you, this is unfettered music-making at its fiercest and freest from the baddest freeform 10-piece on the planet.

For info, see Peter Brötzmann Chicago Tentet/Mats Gustafsson/Ken Vandermark/Paal Nilssen-Love listing.
