Dishoom’s Chowpatty Beach Bar pops up at Southbank

Covent Garden’s Dishoom is one of London’s most accomplished new-wave Indian restaurants, combining great food with a fun setting and efficient service. It now opens a pop-up bar on Southbank as part of Festival of Britain (to Oct 4). It looks like an orange-painted pile of packing crates on the outside but inside the decor is fun and well thought out. We wish we could say the same about the food or service: you pay at the bar for food then wait at a hatch – and wait, and wait. But as a place for a bottle of beer or ‘gola ice’ by the river it’s still a handy, if rather disorganised, option.
