Bubble tea: a round up of the best in London
Hailing from Taiwan, bubble teas are flavoured teas (milk or fruit-based) served with chewy tapioca pearls, shaken and sealed – with a fat straw poked through the lid – for easy consumption. We’ve always rated places like HK Diner and Candy Café in Chinatown for their colourful concoctions but flash newcomers like Camden’s colourful Chaboba and Soho’s mad science-esque Bubbleology (above) have blown the drink into the mainstream. As with the last caffeinated drink fad to sweep through London, we wonder if it’s only a matter of time before Starbucks and their ilk start introducing it.
For info, see London’s Best Bubble Teas listing.

It worries me that Bubbleology is getting so much press right now. The tea is quite good – it’s not very hard to make, but they never seem to be able to handle the flock of customers trying to test it out so the atmosphere is stressful. Maybe they need a few months to sort it out….
Starbucks are already offering it in other countries. I have had a bubble tea at Starbucks in Berlin 2 years ago !
