Borough Wines opens in Hackney with a fill-your-own bottle service
From Borough Market to the Borough of Hackney – Borough Wines opens a second branch in Wilton Way near London Fields – an area lacking in quality independent off-licences. The charming, work-in-progress decor reflects its surroundings well, as does the environmental friendliness: buy an empty 1 litre bottle for £2 and fill it from barrels of own-label red, white or rosé for £6. Quality takes precedence over economy here – and you’ll need to part with a minimum of £10 to get the best value – but the knowledgeable staff ensure it’s money well spent. Although France dominates the bins (the owners hail from there), there are a good few New World and Lebanese bottles too.
