Time Out rounds up London’s best shisha hookah cafés

Posted at 10:00 am, July 24, 2011 in Food & Drink

It’s that time of year when many Middle Eastern visitors migrate to our capital in order to escape the hot climate back home. Many collectively gather in the capital’s best shisha cafés to puff on perfumed tobaccos flavoured with everything from spiced apple to aniseed. If you want to try it yourself, then here is our pick of the best. First up is Mourad Mazouz’s Momo Café, a buzzing venue reminiscent of a Maghrebi bazaar with a convivial atmosphere and efficient service. The nearby Mamounia Lounge offers alcohol-infused shisha (add vodka, wine or champagne to your tobacco), whilst Levant is one of the only places to proffer the electric shisha which can be used indoors. Over on Edgware Road (a serious shisha hub), there’s Moon Palace  - usually dominated by males – and Al-Dar, which stays open to 3am and is perfect for a post-club chill-out.

For info, see Momo, Mamounia Lounge, Al-Dar, Levant listings; Moon Palace, 84 Edgware Road, W2 2DS.
