British Airways uniforms star in retrospective catwalk show at Vintage at Southbank Centre
This weekend’s Vintage at Southbank fashion-fest promises a host of sights for every age and taste. One highlight is a catwalk show of British Airways’ most memorable uniforms from 1920s to present day, held at the Catwalk Theatre on Sunday (6.30pm). Worn by BA staff over the last decades and designed by key names of the era (Hardy Amies, Paul Costelloe, Julien Macdonald), these are serious fashion barometers which tell much about the history of Britain’s favourite airline as well as the ever-changing role of men and women in the workplace. This is the collection’s first ‘airing’; we hope it won’t be its last.
