Rise of the Planet of the Apes
To celebrate today’s UK releases of ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’, the hugely anticipated reboot of the Planet of the Apes franchise that is currently sitting pretty at the top of the US box office, and Brit documentarian James Marsh’s melancholy chimp flick ‘Project Nim’, the Time Out film team have produced a list of the top 10 movies featuring great apes. Caesar (pictured above, a superb ‘mocap’ performance from Andy Serkis) and his kin may have just missed out for their revolutionary efforts in ‘RotPotA’, but I’m sure he would approve of our selection:

1. King Kong (1933, M C Cooper and E B Schoedsack)
2. The Jungle Book (1967, Wolfgang Reitherman)
3. Planet of the Apes (1968, Franklin J Schaffner)
4. 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968, Stanley Kubrick)
5. Every Which Way But Loose (1978, James Fargo)
6. Trading Places (1983, John Landis)
7. Max Mon Amour (1986, Nagisa Oshima)
8. Congo (1995, Frank Marshall)
9. Dunston Checks In (1996, Ken Kwapis)
10. The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters (2007, Seth Gordon)
