Since its inception in 1996, the Portobello Film Festival has developed into one of the biggest and most accessible showcase events for new filmmakers to air their wares. This year’s free 18-day festival springs to life this Thursday (to September 18) with the a fusillade of short films from home and abroad. Highlights include a four-day Caribbean Corner stint at the Tabernacle (including a masterclass by ‘RastaMouse’ creator Michael de Souza), a selection of weekend kids’ screenings and the opportunity to have your own film screened at Westbourne Studios’ Video Café. This year, those who can’t make it have the added option of watching online, but we’d always recommend heading down in person.
