More than a decade after his gorgeous, heartfelt debut film ‘You Can Count on Me’ was released to widespread acclaim and 6 long years since this follow-up was actually shot, esteemed playwright Kenneth Lonergan’s ‘Margaret’ is finally due in cinemas. Legal disputes have kept the film in limbo since filming wrapped in 2005, resulting in a film which looks oddly out of time – Matt Damon is impossibly young, Anna Paquin is still a fresh-faced teen rather than her new sexed-up ‘True Blood’ persona, and Kieran Culkin looks about 9. Early reports suggest that there’s much more to the film than this intense, intriguing but slightly melodramatic trailer reveals and, given Lonergan’s track record on both stage and screen, ‘Margaret’ has just shot to the top of our must-see list. Sadly, there’s no UK release date as yet.
Keep an eye on Time Out’s film pages for info as and when we get it.
