Head to the river for free fun at The Mayor’s Thames Festival 2011

The Main Stage at the Mayors Thames Festival attracts thousands of LondonersCelebrate this fair city and the river that runs through it at The Mayor’s Thames Festival this weekend. As the name suggests, the free annual event welcomes thousands to the capital’s river banks, bridges and docks for a medley of music, dance and some awesome pyrotechnics. Don’t miss performances from Mercury Prize- nominated Ghostpoet, soul sensation Dionne Bromfield, pan-African sensations AJ Holmes and African Boy, a water parade of  a 100-strong flotilla of historical and recreational vessels, a 1920′s electro-swing speakeasy and Britain’s biggest illuminated night carnival procession with 2000 dancers, drummers and masqueraders. If you wondered where Boris’s budget was being spent, watch it go up in smoke with a riverside firework display finale.
