Raindance Film Festival opens

Posted at 4:30 pm, September 28, 2011 in Arts & Entertainment

Another EarthThis evening sees the UK premiere of mournful low budget US sci-fi flick ‘Another Earth’ (above), the opening film in this year’s Raindance Film Festival. Like its numerous sister festivals in cities as far flung as Montreal, Budapest and Mumbai, Raindance is dedicated to screening the kind of independently financed fare that might not get a look-in at the bigger festivals. Having dived into our pile of preview discs, we can attest that this year’s crop is of an unusually high standard: titles to look out for include smart and timely political doc ‘How to Start a Revolution’, heartfelt Serbian coming-of-age tale ‘Tilva Ros’ and oddball, poetic DIY Brit comedy-drama ‘Black Pond’.
