Clark Gable and Joan Crawford for Dancing Lady, 1933 by George Hurrell © John Kobal Foundation, 2011National Portrait Gallery comes over all fabulous this Friday evening with Glamour Factory. At this event, you can tweet a scandalous headline from a vintage typewriter then explore the gallery with Dr David Gems from UCL’s Institute of Healthy Aging, who will talk you through notions of life, death and immortality. Get a glam makeover with Illamasqua, be awarded a film star name, sign your hand print on the walk of fame and relax to the swinging sounds of the 1920s-1950s in the Broken Hearts Cocktail Lounge whilst watching cabaret acts like flapper girls The Bees Knees and burlesque star Millicent Binks. Stick to the dress code of black and white, though – it’s hard being an outcast in Hollywood.
