And now one for the incurably curious gastronome: Something About Food is a new series of serious discussions about food culture, held in an informal setting (this time, it’s at Bethnal Green’s Mason & Taylor on October 12, 7-9.30pm). The first session features an impressively diverse line-up of guest speakers and topics, with James Watt from Brew Dog raising the question of ‘What is craft beer?’ while exploring whether CAMRA’s definitions are still relevant or outdated. James Hoffmann of Square Mile Coffee Roasters tackles the subjective notion of what “good” coffee is – and why the UK has fallen for the bean. The final speaker, Hanna Tuomisto (PhD), will be touching upon the touchy subject of lab-grown meat and how it might save the environment. All fascinating, and all for a tenner (or a fiver if you pay in advance) – though you can’t put a price on knowledge.
