This year the Hindu festival of lights will be celebrated in delicious style at Dishoom, who have teamed up with the DSC South Asian Literature Festival to bring together food, art, storytelling and film. October 23 is when the main events take place and the legends of Diwali come to life via a narrated performance by the Vayu Naidu Company. Exercise your inner artist (or inner child) by helping out artist Dameon Priestly in creating chalk-based pavement art, or come along for the film screening of ‘Sita Sings the Blues’ (6.30pm). The restaurant will also be showcasing a special Diwali menu (October 18-30), which starts with a passionfruit ‘Diwali Bellini’ cocktail and ends with Gola ice or kulfi, and a cup of hot chai. In between, you can sample Dishoom’s signature dishes, such as the slow-cooked black daal, and special Diwali biriyani with winter vegetables.
