There were celebrations at the last-minute injunction at Dale Farm Traveller site on September 20, but after 10 years of fighting, the travelling community lost their battle with Basildon Council for the land on Tuesday 18 October. This morning’s surprise eviction at Dale Farm was reminiscent of a war zone as police in riot gear used sledgehammers to clear the way for the bailiffs. It has been reported that at least three arrests were made and tasers were fired as police and bailiffs violently clashed with residents and protesters.
