Dreaming of a white Christmas? Selfridges’ festive windows are music to your ears

Posted at 7:00 am, October 28, 2011 in Shopping & Style

While most sane folks see red when the yuletide comes a‘knocking too early, we dare even hardened Scrooges to resist the joy of Selfridges’ Christmas windows. Installed in the store’s Oxford Street facing frames last night, the festive scheme (represented in the renderings above) is inspired by the catwalk’s recent obsession with pure white hues, as well as the British obsession with cracking Christmas tunes. And here’s the cool part: Selfridges has teamed up with London-based creative outfit Condiment Junkie to transform the windows into giant music boxes. Harnessing mind boggling technology, the panes of glass act as loudspeakers, pumping out reworked versions of Christmas carols, while enabling window shoppers (or rather window boppers) to listen and enjoy without any interference from the music playing through neighbouring windows. Plus, you can control the songs you hear using a state-of-the-art touch-screen system. If magical Christmas music doesn’t lull you into the festive spirit come advent, we’ll eat our Santa hats.
