As the Met Office and Government join forces to launch the first ever ‘Cold Weather Plan’, what better way to assuage the guilt of splashing out on yet another ‘investment buy’ in these straitened times than by donating those discarded duffles, macs and trenches languishing in the back of your wardrobe to a good home. That’s where Wrap Up London comes in. The inaugural, capital-wide collection is appealing for your unwanted (but still wearable) winter warmers this Friday 4 November. Wear two coats to work, as volunteers from Hands On London will be at Kings Cross, Waterloo, Paddington, London Bridge, Charing Cross and Victoria stations between 6.45 and 11am to relieve commuters of any excess layers. The coats will be redistributed to homeless shelters, women’s refuges and elderly groups just in time for Bonfire Night and ahead of the potential ‘Big Freeze’, which made last year’s December the coldest since 1910.
