Tickets go on sale on Friday 4 November for Damon Albarn’s magical, mystical opera ‘Dr.Dee’ at the ENO. Blur fans may find themselves sitting shoulder to shoulder with seasoned opera buffs at the London Coliseum next July, as the Blur frontman’s second foray into the operatic world receives its London premiere. After tackling the Tang Dynasty via Manga and a Madarin libretto in 2007’s ‘Monkey: Journey to the West’ (with the help of his Gorillaz collaborator Jamie Hewlett), Albarn has turned his attention firmly back to Blighty. Dr. Dee was a real-life 16th century mathematician, astronomer and spy who dabbled in the dark arts while serving as a courtier to Elizabeth I. Perhaps Albarn feels some affinity with this Renaissance man, as he will play a prominent role as the troubadour-narrator. Sell your soul for a ticket if you must, but get in quick. Kirsty McQuire
