Ever run up a shameful fine at the local library? Accidentally on purpose forgotten to return a book or doodled in the margins? Well 1960s playwright Joe Orton went several stages further and ended up in the slammer for his efforts. He and his boyfriend Kenneth Halliwell enacted various creative crimes against the establishment on the book stock of an Islington Library. However, it seems the very institutions mocked and reviled by Orton are now recognising the artistic value of the montages once branded ‘malicious damage.’ Cast your eyes over the anti-establishment cut ‘n’ paste featuring bestiality, dildos and tattooed pensioners at the Islington Museum (to 21 January 2012).
