Pop Up Congo night celebrates Damon Albarn’s DRC Music

Posted at 4:30 pm, November 7, 2011 in Music & Nightlife

DRC Music © Simon PhippsThe product of Damon Albarn’s restless energy, DRC Music is a new project that saw him convene a team of producers – Dan The Automator, TEED (Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs), Actress and Kwes amongst others – and head out to the Democratic Republic of Congo to work with scores of local musicians over five hectic yet extremely productive days. The resulting ‘Kinshasa One Two’ album is out today via Warp, with all proceeds going to Oxfam, and to launch it, Pop Up Congo runs for free tonight at the London College of Communication (4.30-9pm). Organised by FreeFair DRC, expect a snapshot of contemporary film and photography from Kinshasa, as well as DJ sets from DRC ensemble members Actress and Rodaigh McDonald (one half of Italo-disco revivalists Cocadisco).
