We are happy to report, that things are going better for flautist Carla Rees, whom we featured in the ‘riots’ issue (2139) of Time Out back in August. Rees not only lost her home and beloved cats in the fire that swept Croydon on August 8 , but also her flutes – her means of earning a living. ‘Things are gradually calming down,’ she told TO. ‘I’ve got temporary accommodation until at least March, and donations to Just Flutes fund have meant that I have a flute again. The support from everyone has been incredible, and I am making positive steps towards rebuilding my life.’ Rees is also staging a ‘come-back concert’ with rarescale, her ensemble, on November 23 (7.30pm) in Shoreditch. That’s definitely something to make a noise about.
