On a snowy day in December 2009, 5,000 people joined a queue snaking around Trafalgar Square for a free (and generous) bowl of steaming vegetable curry. Quarter of a tonne of smoothies and three tonnes of groceries were also handed out. Everything eaten that day would have otherwise gone to waste, discarded solely for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. On 18 November 2011, noon-2pm, (hopefully without the snow, scenic as it was), the free lunch will be happening again. Food for thought will be dished out too, with talks about food waste from Boris Johnson and Rosie Boycott, plus cooking demos from celebrity chefs Thomasina Myers (of Wahaca) and Valentine Warner, among others. Join in with apple pressing and if you have any leftovers, don’t worry, the pigs will be grateful.
