We don’t want to over-egg the pudding (it’s still only November after all) but if you were in need of that extra push to make your own figgy pud, the Women’s Institue and John Lewis are at your service. The high street stalwart and the formidable institution famous for Victoria Sponges and, more recently, ‘Vulva Quilts‘, have joined forces for the admirable cause of reviving Stir Up Sunday. On a Saturday. Well, even domestic goddesses need a day of rest, right? And they don’t come much more goddess-like than Anne Harrison, the WI’s Vice Chair and sometime Master Chef judge. On Saturday 19 November, Anne will be presiding over the John Lewis kitchen at Stratford City to show pudding-lovers how it’s done. Free, hour-long masterclasses will take place from 11am with enough raisins, sultanas, candied peel, almonds, cinnamon and molasses to sink the Olympic Stadium. Or near enough. Whether or not that Dickensian magic can be recreated in a department store remains to be seen, but one thing’s for sure- we won’t go until we get some. Kirsty McQuire
