Drinking doesn’t get any tougher than this, as The Draft House Tower Bridge becomes the intoxicating battleground for the ultimate elbow-bending glory. Owner Charlie McVeigh will be pitching his top beer choices against Tom Harrow’s (of the drinks website Wine Chap) mighty vinos, to see whether grape or grain comes out on top in the tasting stakes – and you are invited to be the judge. In the inaugural stand-off, McVeigh and Harrow will be playing on an even battlefield as their respective tipples will all hail from the West Coast. Part with £35 to join in with the revelry (and rivalry), which includes the tastings, a light dinner and competitive poetry-writing (haikus and limericks) and arm-wrestling, with quaffable prizes. There will be events up until early spring 2012: English wines versus English beers (Jan 24 2012), French wines versus Belgian beers (Feb 28 2012) and a face-off between German wines and beers (Mar 27 2012). It’s time to take sides.
