OK computer: the robots are coming to town
As a kid, whenever I thought of the future, I figured there would be robots doing all the hard work so I didn’t have to. Yes, we now have Siri but it isn’t quite the same. I expected the flying cars and household robots from ‘The Jetsons’, the perfect ‘Stepford’ wife, or to be threatened by an ‘Austin Powers’ fembot. Well, fear not. The future has arrived and it has come to the Science Museum for this week’s Robotville Festival (December 1-4) where you can meet over 20 robots and their makers. See the latest artificial intelligence innovations, including ‘Dora the Explorer’ who can figure out her surroundings and help you find things (an essential tool for every household I’d say) and ‘Concept’ who can read and mimic human emotions and expressions. Ok, so you can’t take them home yet but shouldn’t be long now. Let’s just hope they don’t turn against us and try and take over the world. Sonya Barber
