You’re meeting in the tourist trap hell that is Covent Garden. You’re meeting in a bar, but you’re not stopping long. The ideal venue has to be achingly cool, but not somewhere to linger. Here’s the solution – Mishkin’s. Styled after a New York Jewish Deli (if only the real thing was this hip), this is not really a place to stop for a meal – but it’s wicked place to pop in for a drink and nibble at the bar. Be warned that a condition of their licence is that you have to order some food, but the list of bar snacks ain’t bad at all. The cockails – Negroni, Gimlet, Gin Martini – are really quite good, and we’d choose them every day over the wines which are served in little tumblers. The service can veer from cossetingly friendly to not very good at all (‘What am I, chopped liver?’), but you’re only popping in for a drink, not having your daughter’s bat mitzvah here. Guy Dimond
