Saturday brunch at the Early Bird

Early BirdSaturday morning, and you’re going to hit Camden Market. But burgers, falafel and stir-fried noodles from the stalls don’t quite hit the mark, so where is a good spot, quiet to meet for a cooked breakfast? Early Bird is a new, Polish-run café right next to Chalk Farm tube station that serves all the standard dishes – scrambled eggs, omelettes, fry-ups – until 2pm, and sandwiches and decent coffee all day. From 11.30am-4pm they also offer more substantial dishes, such as meat stews with rice, or grilled salmon with ‘crashed potatoes’ (sic – luckily, they were wearing their seatbelts). We suggest leaving room for the cakes, which were the highlight of our visit – the cheesecake and apple cake are notably good. The prices are agreeably low, too. Guy Dimond
