Behind the scenes at Boxpark, the world’s first pop-up mall
If you have been past Shoreditch High Street Station recently, you may have noticed that a crop of black shipping containers seems to have been dumped and left by the side of the road. No, this is not a nautical error or the result of a lorry pile up. These containers form the units of ‘the world’s first pop-up mall’. Ok, so it is going to stay up for five years, but that is still a pretty short duration as shopping centres go. There are over 40 ‘alternative’ shops and some great independent eateries, all in boxes that are identical on the outside (but customised within). I went down on the opening day, did some shopping with Dizzee Rascal (kinda), tried on an adult babygro (so comfortable) and generally hung out with the shopping masses of east London. Sonya Barber
