The past year has been a momentous one for London: sit-ins, strikes, demonstrations, rioting and royal (as well as not so royal) snogs all hit the headlines during 2011. The year ahead promises much drama of its own (with the mayoral election in May and the Olympics in July for starters) but in the meantime here are some standout images from an unforgettable 12 months.
The John Snow, W1, April 15
It started with a kiss…Hundreds gathered to protest outside the John Snow, after a gay couple, James Bull and Jonathan Williams, share a kiss in the soho pub, and were asked to leave by a staff member who allegedly described their action as ‘obscene’.
