Rob Dunne and Vic Frankowski, previously of Fitzrovia coffee bar Tapped & Packed, have moved on and now run their own coffee consultancy, called – you guessed – Dunne Frankowski. In collaboration with PR company Protein, they’ve just established their own tiny coffee space at the brand’s 18 Hewett Street Gallery. Currently, the room is as sparse as you could imagine. A single modular counter, combined with the minimal floor space, encourages customers to drink their coffee at the bar while chatting to the barista. A pitch-perfect piccolo drawn from a Union Coffee roast was shot through with a refreshing citruous note that quickly peaked and mellowed out on the palate – now that’s balance. Unfortunately there were no filtered coffees available on our visit, but Dunne suggests that there will be a big emphasis on alternative brew methods, such as the Aeropress, and other exciting developments for coffee nerds. Coincidentally, the coffee bar was also the location for the launch this month of The Independent Coffee Book: London, a compact little guidebook to the best coffee bars and carts in the capital – with captivating photography by Frankowski.
