London to get Europe’s largest free WiFi Zone

Posted at 12:00 pm, January 6, 2012 in Technology

Free Wifi connectionWhat do you give a very rich woman indeed for her Diamond Jubilee gift? If you’re UK mobile phone network O2, then you arrange to set up ‘the largest free wireless hub in Europe’, so that her majesty doesn’t have to go scampering around Buckingham Palace looking for a hotspot strong enough to power her Instagram feed. O2 have announced that the mega hub, covering Westminster City Council and the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea will be installed this month. It’s not just for the Queen’s big day, of course – the aim is to get a good proportion of the capital online in time for the Olympics, ensuring that visitors, residents and businesses alike will be able to keep the world instantly informed when the summer arrives. And fear not – they’ll keep it all up and running after the games are done and dusted, ensuring that the 250,000 residents, 500,000 employees and million-plus tourists who flock to the area each day are fully connected from here on in. Expect to see Wills’ and Kate’s party snaps go viral any time now. The free wifi service will be available through 02 Wifi. For info, see the official O2 Wifi websiteShare your techie tips with other Londoners by tweeting our tech blogger at @Jonniewilks.
