Moomin madness comes to Covent Garden

moomin shopEver dreamt of owning a bath towel emblazoned with a Moomin? How about a pack of napkins featuring the Moomin family having tea? No? Us neither. But there’s apparently sufficient demand to warrant a new store dedicated entirely to the hippo-like trolls. Based in Covent Garden, the first floor boutique stocks a raft of Moomin memorabilia, from cookie cutters to rompers, wash bags to lunchboxes. Among the kid-orientated merchandise, you’ll also find examples of a more grown up tribute to the much-loved work of Finnish artist Tove Jansson. Look out for her 1950s creations depicted on intricate enamel and copper pillboxes (more than £100 a pop) as well as handmade plywood trays featuring the strange and beautiful Moomin forest.
