Usually it’s all spend, spend, spend at Selfridges, so (whisper it) we’re relieved to hear there’s a less materialistic reason to visit our beloved London department store. Words, Words, Words – a literary-themed takeover – launches today (to March 1) and is set to bring a bookish charm to every department. The lower ground floor’s UltraLounge is the hub of the festival and has been transformed into a library to host a series of events, talks and workshops that celebrate the beauty of words as well as the art of conversation. Highlights include handwriting analysis, storytelling, classes by The Idler Academy and a Penguin Classics book club. If you must flash the cash, there’s also a raft of wordy buys: get your wallet ready for Tatty Devine’s bespoke name necklace service, prints by the Keep Calm Gallery, and a choice selection of cool stationery.
