London’s top 5 jukebox joints
We love an old man’s pub where we can get cosy, settle in and fight over song choices with our friends. Some of the best nights are spent head bent over the jukebox jumping up for a boogie everytime one of your selection comes on. We’ve listed a few of our favourtie jukebox joints below. You’re welcome.
The Boogaloo
This bar’s tagline is ‘The sweetest little juke-joint in the world’ and based on the jukebox selection, we’d have to agree. All 100 CDs must be at least 10 years old (Hank Williams, The Beatles and The Specials all feature) and 10 of them must be the picks of famous people (past pickers include Iggy Pop, David Soul, Kate Moss, Shane MacGowan, Ronnie Wood, Sinead O’Connor, The Libertines and The Pogues).
The Hawley Arms
This bar was affected by a fire a couple of years ago and had to close for nine long months, but it re-opened with the same relaxed, home away from home atmosphere. With board games, sweet jars and a well stocked jukebox, comfy seating and a roof terrace for the summer months, you might even want to move in.
Endurance
This Soho institution attracts it all: market traders, media types and the general funky folk that occupy soho, which makes for a relaxed eclectic ambiance. Their Silver city jukebox holds tunes for everyone from the Doves and White Stripes To Lily Allen and Blondie.
The Three Kings
This quirky pub full of creative types in Clerkenwell has a relaxed air and its enthusiasm for music is subtle yet features adefinite theme. It plays host to a music quiz on Monday nights and its jukebox holds only 80 vinyls which change weekly with greats like Talking Heads and Patti Smith.
The Prince George
A Dalston institution, this pub has become overrun with trendy kids, but catch this pub on a quiet night and its still a relaxed armchair pub with some great tunes on the jukebox. Expect 50s and 60s rock ‘n roll.
