On this day in 1970: John Lennon’s ‘erotic’ art is banged up

As a wedding gift to his future wife Yoko, John Lennon produced a selection of loving lithograph prints which went on show at the London Art Gallery. The collection entitled ‘Bag One’ included drawings of their wedding ceremony, honeymoon and their plea for world peace, the Bed-In. Some of the sketches were pretty saucy and the content so erotic that they were even compared to pornography. They caused such a stir in fact, that they were only up for one full day before the exhibition was closed down and the artwork was confiscated by Scotland Yard.
