Thailand comes to a Paddington pub
The Thai pub food explosion happened in the 1990s, and started as the result of one enterprising publican engaging some Thai women to cook up something a bit more appetising for his customers than stale sausage rolls. But now the sisters are doing it for themselves. The Heron, an estate pub just off the Edgware Road, is Thai-run, and they’ve managed to turn it into a little bit of Isarn in Paddington. The karaoke lounge in the basement attracts hordes of young Thai people out for some ‘sanuk’ (fun), but it’s also where they cook up some of the most authentically Thai food we’ve tasted in London. But be warned, The Heron is an experience, and is not a fine dining restaurant.Steel yourself for an evening of loud Thai karaoke as you sup your ‘super chicken paws soup’ or nibble or douse the fiery dishes with some ‘stream rice’.
