Artist OLEK takes her crochet sculptures to the streets

OLEK at Tony's GalleryIf you were out and about in Shoreditch the other night you may well have seen Polish-born, New York-based artist OLEK running about Brick Lane with her street art sculptures. After spending the day making new pieces of her signature colourful, camouflaged crochet, at nightfall she hit the streets of east London to find good spots for her handmade baby bicycles and buggies, disguised with a mask from Futura 2000, the 1980′s NY legend graffiti artist. The after dark antics were part of her current show at Tony’s Gallery ‘I do not expect to be a mother but I do expect to die alone’, in which she has crocheted up a storm covering the entire gallery in wool for her installation (open until March 23).
