Longing for a skiing holiday but can’t escape the Big Smoke? Then head to Méribel in Camden for some Alpine flair in north London. Set under the arches of Camden Road rail station, this cosy brasserie is trying to be as Alpine as edelweiss: a long metal fireplace makes for an urban log-cabin feel, while the cheesy fondue for two to share draws in many couples. Maybe they are aware of the French tradition, where, if a woman loses her piece of bread in the fondue, she must kiss every man at the table? Anne Faber
