As a (mostly) law abiding citizen, I don’t relish the idea of spending a night in a cell. But yet somehow I found myself signing up for a night behind bars in a mocked up faux Alcatraz jail in Kings Cross. ‘Hotel Alcatraz’ is opening up its cell doors from March 13-17 for an authentic overnight prison experience to lucky (or unlucky) participants to promote new TV thriller ‘Alcatraz’. As I don’t plan to ever spend the night locked up in a real slammer, I threw caution (and sanity) to the wind and got myself incarcerated.

On entering the faux jail, you’re read the riot act and told that there must only be silence. I am struggling already.
Mug shot taken, I’m nearly checked in. So far, the service at this ‘Hotel’ is a little surlier than I’m used to.
Hang on a minute, what is this about swapping my clothes for a prison uniform?!
This is an outrage (although actually incredibly comfortable).
This isn’t very roomy and when was the last time this place was cleaned…
I’ll have the steak…you two are my waiters, right?
This is definitely not what I ordered.
I can’t even face making my bed, I don’t plan to stay here long.
Might as well make myself comfortable. Maybe if I am good and quiet, I can earn back some of my stuff.
Wait who turned out the lights? What was that safe word again? Hello, guys?! GUYS?! hello….?
JJ Abrams’ new series ‘Alcatraz’ will begin on Watch at 9pm on March 13. Looking forward to it, if I ever get out…Sonya Barber
