The director of Meltdown 2012 has been announced as Antony Hegarty, of 2005 Mercury award-winners Antony & The Johnsons. Now in its nineteenth year, the festival – taking place at the Southbank August 1-12 – will see the avant-garde singer-songwriter and visual artist present 12 days not only of live music, but also of debate and performance, exploring themes of a personal nature such as gender politics and the environment. Hegarty’s curatorship sees him following in the footsteps of Robert Wyatt, David Bowie, Patti Smith, Jarvis Cocker and, most recently, Ray Davies. The names of acts performing won’t be announced until April, but for lineup news as it comes in, keep checking timeout.com/music.
