Over here at Time Out towers, we like to think we have got the art of buying a T-shirt nailed. Designing one, however, sounds a little daunting. Still, we’re up for the challenge as posed by ethical jeans company Nudie and human rights charity Amnesty International: to design a T-shirt print that illustrates the word ‘empowerment’. Yes, it sounds super worthy, but the possibilities are endless, from a literal depiction or motif, to an abstract artwork or graphic. Applications are being accepted until April 30 and eight winners (who will each receive €1000) will be announced in June. Best of all, the winners will have their T-shirts made and sold from November, with a donation from each tee heading directly for Amnesty. If you need inspiration, head to Nudie’s own site where tees range from the plain and functional to the impressively creative. We’re particularly smitten with its new, limited edition Woad/Guado line – a range of T-shirts dyed using the ancient, labour intensive practice of producing indigo colour from woad and guado plants. The tops will be on sale exclusively at Liberty from next week.
