We’re still chortling from last night’s awards
Last night (March 20), the cream of comedy talent and industry bigwigs came together for the Chortle Awards hosted by Alexei Sayle, celebrating live comedy in all its guises. Surprisingly, character comic Adam Riches failed to win a gong, despite a whopping four nominations. Instead, the big winners were grumps Stewart Lee, Charlie Brooker and Dylan Moran, who won the Best Stand-Up DVD, TV and Tour awards respectively. Time Out’s highlights included a deliciously dry presentation of the Best Newcomer award from Greg Proops, Tony Robinson announcing that Rowan Atkinson was ‘a bit of a cunt’ and Tony Law accepting his low overdue Breakthrough Act award with a bellow of ‘Correct!’.
